Anstice Welcomes Marketing and Insights Coordinator

Anstice Communications (Anstice), is delighted to announce the recent hire of its new Marketing and Insights Coordinator, Emily Banyard.

Emily’s work history is a dynamic one that created a solid foundation for working in communications and marketing at Anstice. After spending three years in Australia in a leadership position with a non-profit organization, Emily travelled to Ireland to help her friends start up a café. She later discovered her passion for nutrition and studied in Vancouver to become a Holistic Nutritionist before she moved to Toronto to work for a small organic cold-pressed juice shop, which grew exponentially in one year. Emily became a part of the shop’s core team and worked in operations and marketing. Emily then had the opportunity to work at an advertising agency in Toronto and decided that an agency is where she belonged.

As Marketing and Insights Coordinator, Emily will be responsible for supporting the marketing team by using her exceptional organizational skills for planning, executing and reporting on all client strategies to deliver superior work from Anstice.

Q&A with Emily:

Why did you decide to work in communications and marketing?

I love people and the agency culture! It’s collaborative and full of diverse personalities that collectively take on all sorts of different clients. The marketing world allows you to broaden your mind and your creativity while working alongside people with dynamic skills that you can learn from. I love that every day is different!

Welcome to Calgary! What do you miss most about Toronto/Ontario? And what excites you the most about moving to Calgary?

I miss the people, of course, but I’m so happy about all the new people I’m meeting! I miss the ease of getting around without a car—Calgary needs a subway! I’m excited about the Alberta way of life. It’s a little bit slower than Toronto, and having the mountains nearby is the best.

What is your favourite social media platform?

Instagram! I love Insta stories. Just a fun, quick way to post and stay connected.

Congratulations on your recent nuptials! What was your favourite moment from your wedding?

Overall, people flew from all around the world for our wedding and we felt so loved and supported!

Also, there was this incredible sunset that came out after the overcast day. We got such beautiful photos, and it was icing on the cake!

Now, the most important question you will ever be asked: Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds?

GOSLING FOR LIFE.

Anstice Welcomes Director of Operations

Anstice Communications (Anstice), is ecstatic to announce the recent hire of its new Director of Operations, Allanah Mooney.

Allanah has over 20 years of experience in strategy, storytelling and social impact. She started her career as a marketing coordinator for the Calgary Flames, where she worked on marketing strategy and sponsor relations. Allanah’s last corporate role was as acting community relations director for the Vancouver Canucks. She was responsible for the off-ice image of the team, including player appearances, special events, fundraising and community partnerships. Allanah later left the Canucks to start her own communications agency, Lionheart Productions. Her work has been translated into seven languages and changed agriculture policy in China to promote a zinc-enriched diet. Allanah is excited to return to Calgary and start her new chapter at Anstice.

As Director of Operation, Allanah will be responsible for organizational and operational effectiveness. She will direct the development and implementation of processes, tools, metrics, initiatives, infrastructure and technology that will support and improve the operations of the agency. Welcome, Allanah!

Q&A with Allanah:

With over 20 years of experience in PR, what advice would you give to young women starting out in the field?

  1. Do more than you are asked. I moved up from junior positions because I was willing to do everything that was needed and expanded my skill set that way.
  2. Be enthusiastic and committed to making an impact. This will attract great mentors and new opportunities. I received an invaluable marketing-communications education from George Jarvis, co-founder of Palmer Jarvis (now DDB), when he became my mentor. He was referred to me from a Canucks charity partner because they saw how hard I worked on their behalf and thought we had shared values.

We heard you about your current project called, “Making a Comeback.” What inspired you to create a web-series featuring people whose lives were transformed through a personal crisis and highlighting the lessons they learned?

The tragic death of my friend’s 16-year-old daughter by suicide led me to develop this campaign. While there were system failures that contributed to Hayden’s death, I also saw a massive communications failure. Upon auditing the branding and communications approach of traditional mental health models, I saw room for improvement in how we position mental health. Specifically, using good short films and marketing psychology, I intend to reduce stigma and promote treatment innovation by “rebranding mental health”. The films will serve as a conversation starter to help engage people in a traditionally sensitive topic.

What is your favourite social media platform?

I found my tribe on Instagram— artists, photographers, storytellers and change agents.

Welcome back to Calgary, by the way! What is your favourite thing about being back in Calgary so far?

I’m returning to Calgary after a 15-year hiatus. What I love is how friendly everyone is. The men always open doors for me here—I really appreciate that.

Now, the most important question you will ever be asked:  Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds?

Ryan Reynolds, but he has to be dressed up as Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. I like a man in uniform. Carrying weapons makes him even sexier.

Allanah Mooney, Director of Operations

Anstice Welcomes Senior Programs Manager

Anstice Communications (Anstice), is delighted to announce the recent hire of its new Senior Programs Manager, Kendra Rogers.

Kendra brings her strong communication, client relations, project management and brand strategy skills to the Anstice Team. Having spent her career working with award-winning digital and creative studios Evans Hunt and Fulcrum Communications, Kendra has had the opportunity to work with brands and companies across all industries and has an ever-growing portfolio showcasing her expertise in account services and brand development for a variety of fiercely-loyal clients, both in a professional and volunteer setting. This experience, along with her client-focused attitude, helps Kendra to understand business marketing challenges and use her natural talent for communication and collaboration to ensure success.

As Senior Programs Manager, Kendra will be responsible for ensuring that programs run smoothly, while using her attention to detail to foster client relationships, manage budgets and timelines and work with the creative team to deliver more top-notch work from Anstice Communications.

Q&A with Kendra:

Why did you decide to work in communications?

I got involved in communications because I love talking with people and connecting like-minded individuals— I’m all about campaigning for totally wicked brands, being an organizational freak and creating relationships with amazing clients, so when I found out you could actually make a career out of that, I was sold!

We heard you host a radio show. What do you love most about working in radio and how did you get into it?

I do! I host a radio show on CJSW 90.9FM here in Calgary on Sunday afternoons and I just love it. I’ve been doing some incarnation of my show for more than eight years, and I got involved because I wanted to combine my love of communications and journalism with my absolute adoration of music, while giving back to the community through volunteerism. I’ve stuck around because of the great community, the incredible listeners and the ability to support and amplify musicians who make great work— the studio is definitely one of my happy places.

What is your favourite social media platform?

Instagram! But Snapchat will always have a piece of my heart because of the wacky filters.

We heard you love dad jokes. What is your favourite dad joke of all-time?

Oooh, that’s tough. My favourite dad jokes change constantly (and I’m constantly discouraged from sharing them by my friends/family, so actually being asked for one is bananas.) I’d say my favourite right now is:

Why did the pony ask for a glass of water?

Because he was a little hoarse.

Now, the most important question you will ever be asked: Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds?

Ryan Reynolds so that he could get me in with Jake Gyllenhaal. *heart eyes*

Kendra Rogers, Senior Programs Manager

Anstice Welcomes Art Director

Anstice Communications (Anstice), is delighted to announce the recent hire of its new Art Director, Leo Perez.

Leo brings a tropical touch to Anstice, being from Venezuela herself. She’s been working within the creative industry for more than five years, starting when she received her Bachelor of Visual Communications from ACAD. She worked for three years as an Art Director at Karo Group, having the opportunity to work with clients such as Calgary Stampede, Banff Lake Louise Tourism, Enmax Energy, ABCRC, Heritage Park, among others. Leo then left Karo to pursue her passion and give freelance a try; she has been doing freelance ever since and is excited to join the Anstice team!

As Art Director, Leo will combine strategic execution with creative flair to fully capture each client’s brand. Welcome, Leo!

Q&A with Leo

What is your favourite part about working on the creative side of communication?

The people. Being on the creative side, I find the need to be constantly inspired and find inspiration mostly from the people that I’ve met within this industry. I’m inspired by their reactions, opinions, styles and stories. Now that design is digitizing with time, I think it is important to give a human touch to everything we create.

We heard you just had a baby! What is your favourite thing about being a mother so far?

My mornings, he has turned me into an early bird. Every day when he wakes up, we just cuddle and cuddle while I have my coffee. It feels like heaven!

What is your favourite social media platform?

I’m between Instagram and Pinterest. I love Instagram because it keeps me in touch with my friends and family, but I can also spend hours submerged in Pinterest; looking specifically through the home decor boards – I’m kind of obsessed with it!

What is your favourite typeface and why?

Bodoni. I love its chubby curve but slim serifs. Every time I use it, I feel like it smiles at me.

Seems like you love to bake, what is your favourite thing to make in the kitchen?

My red velvet cake! It’s the perfect balance between sweet and savoury. Plus, I love decorating it! I’ll make an Anstice (pink velvet cake) so you know what I’m talking about!

Now, the most important question you will ever be asked –  Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds?

I wish I had a more creative answer, but GOSLING all the way!
